why Is every One Not Successful
November 14th, 2008
There are a number of factors that work as an impediment to the success in our life. They are the stumbling blocks to success. They bind your foot when it wants to move on and hence you fall down. Following are the factors that act as a stumbling block to success.
Without proper planning, everything will mess up. If you don’t know how to assemble the parts of an AK-47 then what will be the use of this powerful weapon. Every government takes many months for planning the budget of the state. They make proper long term planning to run the state with targets and goals. It helps them to figure out the low points if they can’t reach the target. If you are given 10 days to perform a task, take 5 days in planning and then start working. Planning gives confidence which is the key to success. Half of the battle is won if everything is planned already. Plan properly and perform to your best. Never get bothered by success because it comes on its own. It requires both physical and mental preparation for struggle. Don’t be a hero at the wrong place. Learn to think ahead of time.
Planning and preparation will help you troubleshoot the mistakes during the course. A foolish person cries on a mistake, while the wise learns from it. It is the source to plan new things and start anew. Learn from the mistake but don’t repeat it. Many students feel the pressure of examinations. But for those students who prepare well beforehand, there is not much pressure. If you plan and prepare everything well in advance, you will handle the work well with hardly any stress at all.
First, try to know the difference between persistence and being obstinate. Both are sticking on their will. The only difference is that persistence is on positive side while being obstinate is a negative trait. It is human nature to give things up before the finishing line. Many of us fail in our missions not because we don’t have the talent but because we don’t want to stay on a bit longer.
“A man is a hero not because he is braver than anyone else, but because he is brave for ten minutes longer”.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
So, don’t give up your faith and stay on for a while. Success will be yours.
Always remember that Rome was not built in a day. It took hundred of years to build such a beautiful city. Everything has its own time. It will be a mistake if you try to fasten the wheel of nature. Let everything rolls on its own. You can become a millionaire overnight but how? Of course, through shortcuts. The dream of this momentary happiness and achievement makes many people weep for a lifetime. You are risking your life if you take a U-turn before the red light. There is shortcut to every journey. But it is short lived and very risky.
Risk taking is the most important factor to success. During the struggle to achieve our goals, we face lots of troubles and difficulties on our way. Failing to face them with proper defenses will dither your success. Or failing to face them will also keep the success beyond your reach. Risk taking is a very wide term. Very often, people misconceive recklessness and rash manner as risk taking. But risk taking is much bigger than this. The definition of risk taking will be different from one person to another according to their goal. Risk taking can also be seen as – responsible and irresponsible risk taking. Responsible risk taking involves careful study and evaluation of risks through the journey. It includes training, preparation and competence. While irresponsible risk is recklessness with a very high degree of danger and peril. Always remember that half the battle is won if you are prepared fully.
Risk taking is not gambling. If you are a sailor, your risks will include facing storms, waves, rains, and cyclones.
No poison is more harmful than selfishness. It is the source of soreness and failure for everything. The world is a very big place and it provides unlimited resources to all of us. The altruistic person gets pacified with what he gets while a selfish person never gets pacified. Give him a hundred he will want a thousand. Give him a thousand he will want ten thousands. Give him that and he will want a million. Thus, his selfishness will never allow him to limit his wishes. Selfishness led to the killing of the hen that laid golden eggs. The hope of getting hundred golden eggs in a single day spoilt the selfish dream to get rich quickly.
Confidence is not something we can feed to you. You must develop it yourself. A teacher can give you knowledge but not confidence. Office may give you very good remuneration but not confidence. Until and unless you have confidence, you can’t do anything on your own.
“If there is a will, there is a way”.
Everyone is having bad times at some or other point of his or her life. But it should not obstruct your goal. Some factors are very strong enough to disturb you. Here, the need of confidence comes up. Despite all the intricacies and difficulties, your confidence will keep you moving through fire until you reach your goal.
It is the law of the nature to get what we did. Everything is planned by nature properly and we can’t escape from it. You can’t help the caterpillar coming out of cocoon during the process of turning into butterfly. It is the law of nature that a butterfly has to struggle on its own coming out of the cocoon in order develop and strengthen in its wings. Helping it come out of the cocoon will kill the butterfly because that is against the law of nature.
“As you sow, so shall you reap”.
“Tit for tat”.
Action and reaction are equally strong but opposite in direction. You can’t reap paddy without sowing it. You must sow first in order to reap. An orange tree will never bear apples. So, it is very important to know the law of cause and effect to succeed in life. Nature always tells us what is happening. Only we ignore it due to ignorance and negligence.
“How many times it thundered before Franklin took the hint!
How many apples fell on Newton’s head before he took the hint!
Nature is always hinting at us.
It hints over and over again.
And suddenly we take the hint.”
– Robert Frost
Fear of failure
Without any doubt, fear comes from lack of confidence. If you have confidence then there will be no room for fear. Confidence and fear are enemies to each other and hence can’t occur simultaneously. Every fear has a reason for it. People fear nights due to darkness. Students fear examination due to the lack of preparation. Fear builds up anxiety and lowers your efficiency in work. There is no way to demonstrate your potential and skill if fear surrounds you. In most cases, fears are built upon baseless grounds. The easy way to escape fear is to quit the activity. Instead of quitting, figure out the sources of fear and then ways to cope with it. If you fear skidding then you will never learn skating. Will you not sleep due to fear of nightmare? If you do, then you will never sleep in life. But for how long?
If Thomas Edison had not learnt from his mistakes, we would be living without the light bulb today. He failed around ten thousand times while working on the light bulb. He learnt from his mistakes. And every mistake gave him a room for improvement. Take mistakes as a source of finding the truth. It will give you courage and confidence in future to overcome mistakes. A person who never fails in life is an easy going person while failure makes a person strict, well-prepared and confident. He equips himself to troubleshoot the mistakes if committed during the journey while the other person will take time in finding the ways to fight off the mistakes. He didn’t prepare because he never had failed before. Failure is the stepping stone to success. It is better to commit mistakes and learn new things than sitting idle and doing nothing for fear of mistakes.
Nothing is more important in life than discipline. It is the device to differentiate between gold and copper; good and bad among the people.
“You have a choice in life: You can either pay the price of discipline or regret.”
– Tim Connor
Strict discipline is the invisible force behind every achievement. No accomplishment can be made without meeting the required discipline. Never be arrogant and look down on others. How talented and skillful you might be, you can never succeed in life unless you have discipline. Be honest to yourself and others. Do your duty honestly.
A donkey traveled a long distance everyday carrying a salt bag on his back. One day while crossing the river, he found the weight of the bag lowered by half. From that day, he started crossing the river everyday to lower the weight. The owner was facing heavy loss because of this. One day he spied on the donkey to find how it carried the bag and found the trick of the donkey. The next day, instead of salt, he loaded the donkey with cotton. The donkey felt the weight doubled up after crossing the river and he almost died reaching the destination. From that very day, the donkey avoided crossing the river.
Discipline teaches us how to face the challenges of life; how to behave with others and how to handle the difficulties. Respect, courage, patience, punctuality, and confidence are all examples of discipline.
Every action needs to be dealt with courage. You must have the guts to overcome obstacles and mistakes on your way. The coward waits for help from others, while the brave creates his own way. He is the person who has confidence in himself. Courage overcomes fear which is the main cause of failure. A person succeeds in life when he faces all the challenges that come his way. A coward always seeks the way of “excuses” while the brave always tries to discover the ways to “success”.
It is better to live for a day and enjoy the beauty of nature than to live in darkness for a hundred years.
“When you think you know everything,
You know nothing.
When you think you don’t know anything,
You know at least something”.
Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Without knowledge, you can’t face anything. In order to win a round of discussion, you will be required to equip yourself with the information and facts of the concerned matter. Otherwise, you will not be able to put your point across. Ignorant people don’t realize themselves as ignorant for the simple reason that they are ignorant. Ignorant people don’t try to improve themselves because they don’t know what and where to improve. When they know the area of improvement, it is a very good thing because they are on the verge of acquiring new knowledge. Many ignorant and lazy people depend on luck. If they accomplish something, they attribute it to luck. If they fail, they blame it on luck. Luck becomes their point of excuses. Is it fair to blame the dance floor when you can’t dance well? Luck favors only those who work very hard. The only way to overcome luck is by taking responsibility and start working instead of waiting for miracles to happen.
A Chinese proverb says, “The greatest misery in life is no work.” The world is a very big place. It gives enough space for everyone to walk on. Similarly, it gives enough things to find out. The more you find, the more you have to search. There is no limitation to learning. Give yourself more and more work to do. You will realize you have to do more and more things. Without purpose, you will not be able to figure out the opportunity that has been knocking at your door for long.
“Opportunity knocks only once at your door.
Grab it or you lose it forever.”
Opportunity has many faces. It is a great masquerader. It always comes in disguise. It is your intelligence and knowledge that will help in discovering the opportunity. It should be always remembered that greater opportunity comes with greater difficulties. Hence, when you have greater difficulties, don’t lose hope. You must feel happy and take it as a big challenge thinking there is more opportunity for you.
