A radar detector is a device that is fitted in your car to detect radar signals directed at your vehicle. You would like to be forewarned when a police radar beam is aimed at you. With a radar detector fitted in your car, you can drive peacefully and in a more relaxed manner. A radar detector is affordable and provides you protection against speeding tickets and other driving perils too. There are various models available that feature latest technologies.
Let us now see how a radar detector works. Radar signals are invisible to the eye, but for the sake of explaining, consider the radar as a thin beam of light. When you project a beam of light on a distant object, you see the light as it gets reflected back from the object. Now, if you are the object on which the beam is projected from a far distance, you will see the source of the light quicker than the person aiming the light can see you. This happens because over a distance the beam of light loses energy. Thus, the beam has energy as it travels the distance up to you, but does not have the requisite energy to reach back to the point of its origin.

There is a hot discussion on among the many car owners whether to fit a radar detector in the vehicle or not. There are many who are in favor of having a radar detector fitted, and an equal number that opposes its use vehemently. They argue that with radar detectors fitted in their vehicles, drivers tend to get careless and over speed, risking theirs and other people’s lives. However, there is no concrete evidence to support their claim. This does not mean that people with radar detectors have not been involved in road accidents, or have not been over speeding under the false notion of having a foolproof protection against over speeding. They, for sure, must have been booked for over speeding, which may have made them more cautious as drivers. The next point is why have a radar detector in the first place if it is not a foolproof device. With a radar detector installed, the chances are that you may not be caught for over speeding if you happen to drive more responsibly. Good quality detectors can alert you in advance if there is police laser being fired around. Thus, you are forewarned before the police laser beam is able to detect you.
